Cast in a Horror Film

Last June after coming back from a trip to Iceland, France, and Switzerland, I was reached out by a filmmaker by the name of Kelly Parks, for whom I had auditioned in 2014 for a series (that ended up not being pursued).  In his message he was asking me to read his feature length script and to get back to him as he was offering me the role of Anna Wilson. He told me later that he had watched my reel and my work evolving over the years. When I return from Europe I’m usually a bit off for a few days, convinced that I’m not but I truly am a loony toon. On top of it this time I had left behind my agenda at my mother’s place (yes, I love to write down still) we might have celebrated my birthday a little too hard before taking off…Caroline! So… Kelly contacted me again a few days later and this time I read his script. I was pretty amazed how well written and how fast paced it was. The character I was being offered was beyond interesting from an actor point of view and it made me laugh.

Stage versus Film

We were about to start rehearsals for Fringe International Festival with a few of my theatre friends from the Poolhouse Project but I had to step down to be able to shoot the feature. Fortunately roles weren’t blocked yet for the play.  It was actually pretty painful for me to back down from this play because I stand for making great art and as an artist the play “We The People” that was about to be performed was very close to my heart and to what I stand for.  I guess it’s a nice problem to have. I’m an actress but most of my work is for film and opportunities don’t come often until a big break (I’m sure even then) and the part of Anna Wilson was also very promising. Kelly thanked me for choosing to work on his film and for changing my plans. I went to see my friends perform in “We The People”. It was absolutely fantastic, well put together while being raw and doing human rights and America justice.

Filming

I was hired and got to work for 10 days with a very hard working cast & crew. The person who portrays my husband, Matt Bradford, in the film happened to be a classmate from Billy Cowart at WCI Studios.  We filmed on a Red Camera. It was an incredible experience and as I say every time I work, there’s no other place I’d rather be than on set (but for my husband’s arms of course <3).  I love what I do and feel incredibly lucky to be able to do it.

Demon Protocol is a horror film and should be released on March 23rd on Vimeo and Amazon. I hope you’ll buy it or watch it and will give it an honest review! Links below:

I enjoyed being a part of Kelly Parks’ team and first feature film. We might have our differences regarding certain subjects for sure but I’m glad we have the commonalities of working for the best result possible when it comes to making a film.

I’m thankful for the safety and warnings on set while handling fake bullets and firearms for the sake of making this piece and for the opportunity to have worked with talented people.

En juin dernier, après un voyage en Islande, en France et en Suisse, j’ai été contactée par un cinéaste du nom de Kelly Parks, pour lequel j’avais auditionné en 2014 pour une série (qui ne s’est pas faite finalement). Dans son message, il me demandait de lire le scénario de son long métrage et de revenir vers lui avec une réponse car il m’offrait le rôle d’Anna Wilson! Il m’a dit plus tard qu’il avait regardé ma démo reel et mon travail évoluer au cours des années. Quand je reviens d’Europe, je suis généralement un peu dans les choux pendant quelques jours, convaincue que je ne le suis pas, mais je suis vraiment à l’ouest. En plus de cela cette fois j’avais laissé derrière moi mon agenda chez ma maman (oui, j’aime encore écrire sur du papier) on a bien fêté mon anniversaire avant de décoller … Caroline! Alors … Kelly m’a recontacté quelques jours plus tard et cette fois j’ai lu son script. C’était effrayant, bien écrit et rapide. Le personnage que l’on m’offrait était intéressant d’un point de vue de comédienne et il me faisait rire.

Théâtre versus film

Nous étions sur le point de commencer les répétitions pour Fringe International Festival avec quelques-uns de mes amis de théâtre du groupe Poolhouse, mais j’ai dû me retirer du projet pour pouvoir tourner le long métrage que l’on m’offrait. Heureusement, les rôles n’étaient pas encore bloqués et finalisés. C’était vraiment pénible pour moi de renoncer à cette pièce de théâtre parce que je tiens à participer à des réalisations qui ont une signification en tant qu’artiste. La pièce «We The People» qui était sur le point d’être jouée était très proche de mon cœur et de ce qui m’importe. Je suppose que c’est un bon problème à résoudre. Je suis une actrice la plupart de mon travail est pour le cinéma et il faut saisir des opportunités lorsqu’il y en a. Le rôle d’Anna Wilson était aussi très prometteur. Kelly m’a remercié d’avoir choisi de travailler sur son film et d’avoir changé mes plans. Je suis allée voir mes amis jouer “We The People” sur scène. C’était absolument fantastique, bien monté tout en étant vrai et rendait justice à l’Amérique.

Tournage

J’ai travaillé une dizaine de jours sur ce tournage avec une équipe des plus appliquée. La personne qui joue mon mari, Matt Bradford, dans le film s’est avérée être un camarade de classe des cours donné par Billy Cowart à WCI Studios. Nous avons filmé avec une Red Camera. C’était une expérience incroyable et comme je le dis chaque fois que je travaille, il n’y a pas d’autre endroit que je préfère qu’un plateau de tournage (à part être dans les bras de mon mari, bien sûr <3). J’aime ce que je fais et je me sens incroyablement chanceuse de pouvoir le faire.

J’ai aimé faire partie de l’équipe de Kelly Parks et de son premier long métrage. Nous avons des différences sur certains sujets c’est certain, mais je suis heureuse que nous ayons en commun de travailler pour le meilleur résultat possible lorsqu’il s’agit de faire un film.

Je suis reconnaissante pour la sécurité et les mises en garde sur le plateau lors de la manipulation de fausses balles et d’armes à feu pour le besoin du film et pour l’opportunité d’avoir travaillé avec des gens talentueux.
